Shira Horenstien
A designer and an artist, who holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem (2020). Her work traverses object design for the home environment and unique designs for commercial spaces. Upon completing her bachelor’s degree, she participated in the Bezalel alumni’s Incubator (“Hamama”) activity, where she presented an exhibition in the 2021 Design Week. She also presented several works addressing local material culture and mysticism.
Together with members of the Miss Production Studio collective, she presented products with a local Israeli flair at the Fresh Paint fair. The products were made of raw materials that represent the Israeli industrial culture, in collaboration with various Israeli companies and with emphasis on the utilization of scrap materials and renewal with a sustaining outlook.
“In my work, I examine mystical elements and symbols, investigating them from various angles and drawing the boundaries between art and thought. I refer to the relationship between the old and the new, between preservation and restoration, between covert essence and implementation, between art and society, between heritage and design, between the local and the universal. I seek to bring the wings of the spirit to the offering of matter.”
