Noam Alon
Contemporary art curator and critic
Born 1993, Tel Aviv, living and working in Paris and Tel Aviv
Currently preparing his Museology Ph.D. dissertation as a fellow in Sorbonne Nouvelle University, Paris.
His curatorial research progresses along two main axes. The first is the investigation of the different manners in which our psyche and our perception of emotional states are structured by social diktats since the beginning of the Industrial era, with the rise of psychoanalysis, up to the New Age trend and the domination of popular positive psychology. Noam works with various artists who attempt to sever the link between mental stability and efficient work performance, proposing each their unique way of emancipating this scheme. The second research axis is the examination of natural phenomena caused by the climate crisis being interpreted by different authorities as contemporary doomsday myths, using fear, pessimism and omnipotence to create social fragmentation – individual guilt instead of collective action. Noam dialogues with artists questioning the Anthropocene Epoch, suggesting options to deconstruct dogmatic perspectives and beliefs.
The main axis of Noam’s academic practice is the exposure of invisible infrastructures and power relations within the art world, aiming to propose methodologies based on horizontality and experimentation rather than hierarchy and fashionism
Curated numerous exhibitions in Paris, including at Espace Niemeyer, Palais des Beaux Arts; Cité Internationale des Arts, Galeriepcp, Galerie Jousse Entreprise, and DOC, as well as in Israel, including at Binyamin Gallery and Givon Art Forum, Tel Aviv. His written work was published in various magazines, catalogues, periodicals etc.
