By performing relatively minor manipulations—such as bending, coloring, cutting and sowing—on industrial readymade objects, Cohen gives a personal-subjective interpretation to objects in the physical world. An aluminum shelf that cannot support anything, a plastic roof panel that was painted and turned into a screen—Cohen’s work process strips the objects of their functional use and transforms them into a purely mental experience. Through these processes, Cohen seeks to reach a pure aesthetic essence, a pristine experience where man, material and form meet.
